The Little Cloud

Once there was a little cloud named Pip. Pip lived in the bright blue sky. He was small and round and very, very white. Every morning, Pip woke up and looked down at the green earth.

He saw rivers shining like silver ribbons. He saw kids playing in parks. He saw cars zipping on roads. The sky was the best home for a cloud.

One sunny day, Pip floated over a small farm. The sun was hot. The corn was tall, but the leaves were drooping. The flowers were thirsty. A little girl in a red hat looked up at the sky with sad eyes.

"I can help!" said Pip. He took a deep breath. He puffed out his cheeks. He grew bigger and bigger and turned a soft gray.

Then he poured down rain. The drops were cold and clean. The corn stood up straight. The flowers opened their petals. The little girl ran out and laughed and danced in the rain.

"Thank you, cloud!" she called.

Pip smiled and floated on. The wind carried him over fields and hills. Helping was the best feeling in the whole sky. Pip was just one small cloud, but he could do big things.
